After a very successful pilot project realized together with Jeunesses Musicales Croatia and HGM Jazz Orchestra Zagreb last May, the Cultural Movement of Limassol “Epilogi” is proceeding with the second thematic youth music program named European Youth Music Dialogues: Cyprus – Germany 2010.
This joint effort of Epilogi and its main partner Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland (Germany) will be done in collaboration with Rialto Theatre, Goethe Zentrum Nicosia, Jeunesses Musicales Cyprus, Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie (German Philharmonic String Orchestra) and Municipality of Limassol. Between 15 and 20 of December 2010, the two youth ensembles – the 65-member Epilogi Youth Choir and the 15-member German Philharmonic String Orchestra will be meeting for 5 days in Limassol, Cyprus, rehearsing, making recording sessions, workshops, educational and social activities, but also sharing their free time. As a result of their friendship, they will give two joint concerts open for the public - the first one in PASYDY Theatre of Nicosia on 18th December and the second one in the Rialto Theatre of Limassol on 19th of December. Both concerts will start at 8:30pm.
Under the baton of the Artistic Director of Epilogi, Mrs Angelina Nicolaidou Spanou, our youngsters will present the work “Mass” written for choir, strings and piano by one of the most prominent contemporary composers Steve Dobrogosz, who will visit Cyprus especially for this occasion and will also perform as piano soloist. The concerts program will be enriched with choral arrangements of gospel songs by the composer and with the participation of well known Cypriot musicians. Britten’s Simple Symphony will also be presented by the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie Orchestra.
“European Youth Music Dialogues” acts as a framework for wider international exchange program between EPILOGI and similar youth & music organizations from Europe. Using music as a mean of expression and communication among young people, EYMD brings together youth ensembles for 4-6 days to meet, play and sing together, have workshop, become acquainted with the history and culture of Limassol and Cyprus. During the days of the project, the Epilogi Youth Choir and partner orchestras usually develop a concert program through interactive workshops and rehearsals and perform a public concert. In addition the project participants have recording session, excursions, joint meals and parties – which make them friends forever.
The project significantly contributes to the intercultural dialogue and mobility of young musicians across Europe. It also develops the democratic participation of young people in building Europe of future, enabling them to express freely their opinions.
The sponsors of the project are: Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus, Ministry of Youth of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cyprus , Bernard Schulte Shipmanagement (Cyprus), Wolfgang Hastenrath Havariebureau (Cyprus) Ltd, OPAP and Cyprus Tourism Organization.
